Subject- There acn only be four gospels. Irenaeus appears to combine a revealed and a natural theological argument to make his case, and plays on the idea o the four and the one.
Some poeple have been suggesting that there be more than four gospels
in their canonical order?
Augustine City of God
Subject- fall of Rome. Why were the barbarians not more barbaric? Because of "Christ and his era"
Augustine admits that wars are always bloody and destructive, yet the barbarians were somehow gentle?
1-"the name of Christ and his era"- with the coming of Christ the world has changed
2- the fulfillment of the "prohecy" of David in Psalm 89.
Summa Theologiae - Is theology neccessary? What are the "objections" to learning any more than can be learned from philosophy?
1-men should not need to know anything above philosophical reason, everything that is philosophical reason is treated in philosophical science, therefore anything above philiosophical reason is superfluos
2-Knowledge can be concerned only with being, for nothing can be knwon, save what is true;and all that is, is true. But everyhing that is, is treated in philopsphical science, even god himself. so that there is a part of philosophy called theology. Therefore we only need philosophy.
1- man is directed toward God
2-the truth of God such as reason could discover, would only be known by a few, and that after a long time, and with the admixture of many errors
3-so the salvation of men may be brought out more fitly and more surely
-"so when he made us, God almight was our kindly father, and God all-wise our kindly Mother, and the Holy spirit their love and goodness, all one good, one lord
- Jesus christ who sets good against evil is our real Mother
-Ï saw the blessed trinity working. I saw that there were these three attributes: fatherhood, motherhood, and lordship- all in one god"
-öur life, too, is threefold" being, growth and perfection
theme appears to be trinitarianism

"For it is throught the liturgy, especially the divine Eucharistic Sacrifice, that the work of our redemption is exercised"
-"The liturgy is thus the outstanding means by which the faithful can express in their lives and manifest to others, the mystery of Christ and the real nature of the true Church."
"were neccessary, the rites are to be carefully and thoroughly revised in the light of sound tradition.. and be given new vigor to meet modern times
