Seneca Falls Convention (1848)
First woman's rights convention in US history. Wanted to gain legal and voting rights for women.
To keep the union together and to prevent the spread of slavery.
Law that gave 160 acres of land to citizens that met certain conditions.
They had to be at least 21 yrs old or the heads of families. Had to be citizens or immigrants filing for citizenship and they had to farm land for 5 years in a row to claim ownership.
Provisions of Missouri Compromise (1820)
- California would be admitted as a free state
- People of New Mexico and Utah would have popular sovereignty
- Sale of slaves (not slavery) abolished in Wahington DC
- Texas give up claims to New Mexico for $10 million\\
- Fugitive Slave Act - all US citiens would have to return escaped slaves & these slaves would be denied a jury trial
