Justin Sims Andrew Evangelista Title: Weak Acids, Weak Bases, and their Salts Abstract: In this lab the pH of various solutions were found and these numbers were then used to determine the corresponding values of Ka and Kb for the solutions. Introduction: The goal of this experiment was to determine the pH of acids, bases, and salts using a pH meter. These numbers were then used to calculate the dissociation constants and the variation of the degree of ionization of the compounds. Experimental: In this experiment a pH meter was first calibrated using three standards of pH 4.00, 7.00 and 10.00. The pH meter was then used to measure the pH of various solutions Results and Discussion: Table of Results Answers to Questions Answers to both of these are on the following pages. Discussion of Errors One of the possible sources of error in this lab could have been that the pH meter was not calibrated correctly; this would have caused all of the pH readings to be off.
