Meet Emily, a student from Santa Rosa, California, currently attending U.C. Davis. What do you love about your school and what are you majoring in? I love the community, the small town—and yet there’s a large student body. I also love and how good my school is and how close it is to the mountains. I am double-majoring in Economics and Sociocultural Anthropology. I love that with my Economics major, I get to study why people do what they do through rational thinking. I love Anthropology because I'm able to study different cultures, political science and history all in one. What is your favorite activity outside of school? I’m on the U.C. Davis Alpine Ski and Snowboard Team, so outside of class I can be found on the nearby mountains, snowboarding. I can also be found rock climbing at the local gym. After graduation, I see myself in Colorado working for a real estate company, or at least at a rock-climbing gym. How much time do you spend on your mobile device and what are your favorite apps? On average, on any given day, I will spend four to five hours total, either looking at, playing on or studying on my phone. I also spend around two hours re-listening to lectures on my phone. My favorite apps include Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Smartvoice (a recording app that I use to record and re-listen to lectures) and StudyBlue. What do you love about StudyBlue and how do you use it? Neither of my majors really require the need for flashcards, but when it comes to studying for midterms and finals, I will use StudyBlue to work on memorizing terms that I have a hard time grasping. My favorite feature is that I can use it on my phone. It is so convenient to be able to study without lugging my computer around. Any advice for students on how to prepare for exams? I always say prepare sooner than later. I hate cramming, which leads to unnecessary stress. I can usually be found preparing for my midterms at least a week in advance.
